The vision is clear: all artefacts and handicrafts sold at the Vanuatu Handikraf Senta and Mahitahi will eventually be proudly ‘Made in Vanuatu’.

A recent survey by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) revealed that around 90% of products currently sold by mamas at the Wharf and Port Vila Market are cheap imports from China.

Efforts are now underway to shift this landscape, aiming to replace imported goods with locally made products that showcase Vanuatu’s culture, support local artisans, and strengthen the economy.
